DIY - Gift urn
For an original wedding decoration and a good alternative to the wedding list,
Carole from
Rock and paper
proposes to recycle a world globe into a gift urn.
Ideal if the bride and groom are planning a honeymoon around the world.
Note
Duration :
2h
Difficulty :
3/5
Material
One world globe
Odif 101 Temporary Paper Adhesive
Odif 201 Masking Glue
Odif 202
Temporary Adhesive Multimedia
Cutting pliers
Dremel type electric saw or a cutter
Scissors
A few flowered paper napkins
Two different colors of spray paint cans
A few scrap paper sheets
A roll of masking tape
Step 1
If the globe has electrical wiring (light):
Take the globe apart completely and remove the bulb and wiring.
Use the cutting pliers if necessary.
Step 2 and 3
With the help of masking tape, draw a rectangular opening where desired.
Cut the opening by following the masked outline, using a Dremel saw (or a cutter if the globe is made of cardboard)
Step 4
Protect your work surface and spray paint the globe as well as the globe stand.
Step 5
Use the Odif Temporary Paper Adhesive 101 to help in cutting up the paper napkins.
To do this, spray a piece of scrap paper with the 101 and place the front side of the paper napkin onto your scrap paper.
Step 6
Cut the flowers one by one.
You need enough flowers to go all around the globe.
Step 7
If the globe is painted in a dark color, use the Odif 201 Masking Glue on your napkin.
It will avoid transparency issues if the colors on the napkin are light.
Otherwise use the Odif 202 Temporay Paper Adhesive.
Spray the back of the cut paper napkin flowers.
Step 8
Stick the flowers to the globe.
Step 9
Delicately remove the scrap paper.
Step 10
With a soft cloth, tap lightly on the flowers to finish the gluing.
The globe being a sphere there will necessarily be some pleating.
This will bring texture to the flowers.
Conclusion
Continue gluing till the globe is covered with flowers. You can alternate between flower sizes, shapes and colors.
Your gift urn is ready to accept the envelopes ! Have a flowered wedding, anniversary or retirement party !
